Asia
In Asia, PMI worked with Habitat for Humanity to launch the first-ever "Home Safety and Improvement Program" and served as lead sponsor. Under this successful pilot project, within a three-month period volunteers renovated 69 homes for elderly people living on their own at the Lower Ngau Tau Kok Estate in Hong Kong. This estate is one of the oldest public rental housing estates with more than 37 years' history and has gradually become a community of primarily the aged and lower income families. Renovations were planned to improve safety and prevent potential domestic accidents. PMI Asia also was a sponsor of Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong's first-ever gala fund-raising ball, "Dreams and Reality," which netted more than HK$5 million to support Habitat for Humanity programs in the Asia-Pacific region.
